artist statementUNIT 2
My current artistic exploration delves into the nuanced concept of 'inbetweenness’. I see inbetweenness as tension between opposing forces that ultimately coexist. It's both the barrier and the bridge, solid and fluid, the conscious and the subconscious. It's in this tension that I find the most compelling of creative possibilities.
My artistic practice is informed from the internal conflict I experience when expressing myself to the public. I often gravitate towards the extremes. I am either holding back completely or expressing myself without restraint. The push and pull along with the ongoing struggle to balance vulnerability and public persona is central to my work.
I am currently exploring the weave of seemingly opposing materials. Namely, the robust solidity of metalwork and the delicate translucency of fabric. By juxtaposing these mediums, I aim to foreground the inherent tension and unexpected harmony that can exist between contrasting elements. Ultimately, my research explores liminal spaces and the potential for integration. I seek to articulate how seemingly disparate entities can coexist and create a dialogue, revealing the complexity found within the space of the "in-between."
