Indonesian Scholar International Convention 2025 @ ICLUNIT 3 snippets from the talk
I was honored to speak at the Indonesian Scholars International Convention 2025 in Imperial College alongside Dr. Patrick Hartono (Audiovisual Artist, Researcher, and Computational Arts Lecturer at Goldsmith; now teaching at RMIT). Presenting under the title ‘Is AI Art Legit? Learning, Navigating, and Transcending Machine Creativity’ for the Humanities, Art, and Communication Cluster. The conference took place the weekend before our 2025 ★Summer Show at UAL. The conversations and critical engagement during the event provided a vital opportunity to help strengthen and refine my understanding of my own practice before the degree show from a different academic approach.
The speaking invitation came directly from Patrick himself. The topic of AI art seemed very fitting with the current art zeitgeist and became an interesting conversation that bridged both our different approaches in art. Patrick’s practice incorporates a lot of digital technology. He works with customized AI systems to visualize his sound art, whereas my practice has grown to become very tactile and inherently reliant with my own hands on approach.
Our two practices served as a conceptual antithesis to one another. This opposition created a fun dynamic, contrasting and enriching our presentation. It offered a unique perspective and discussion regarding the future and trajectory of AI in art, especially when considered through the lens of Indonesian culture.
